Jen began her career as a surgical nurse, which catapulted her into years of cross-country travel nursing and skill strengthening in various settings — from small critical access hospitals to urban university medical centers. She then grew her career by becoming a specialty-certified clinical educator for a large university medical system, where she reviewed and revised policy, ran orientation, competency, and in-service programs for medical, nursing, and surgical tech students as well as new employees. Due to a passion project to make nursing documentation simpler, she then transitioned to a clinical applications analyst supporting staff experience in a completely different way. Key themes across her career landscape are building strong collaborative relationships, working toward efficiency and process improvement, and advocacy for nurses and patients alike. In this chapter, she strives to remain an advocate for nurses and patients, helping them self advocate and educating them on various topics, through both business and volunteer activities.
